A simple, fool proof solution to insure a reasonable federal budget; one that even a liberal can understand; all in two points:

1. Eliminate federal withholding of income tax.

2. Move tax-filing day from April to the first Monday in November.

A constitutional amendment to do these two things and voters would take care to see that responsible persons get elected to watch over the tax dollars that are so painfully evident. I am convinced that many people tolerate our ridiculous tax situation simply because it is insidiously hidden by withholding; it's like running up a debit on your MasterCard. Make taxes something to be planned for and paid just before you vote and you'll get action to reduce federal spending.

For good measure, I highly recommend two corollary changes:

1. Identify incumbents on the ballot

2. Eliminate pensions for congressmen (this term includes Senators)

These actions, taken together with my maxim, “When in doubt, vote ‘em out!” would ensure America would soon be free of self-interested, career politicians.
