Free Republic - the Roman Catholic Protection League

Free Republic has been around for years, providing a conservative platform for political dialog in cyberspace.  The site has several sub-forums, including Religion.  Unless a thread is tagged by the poster as one of several protected categories (devotional, etc.), thick skins are advised, as myriad viewpoints will be exchanged.  Lately, however, Roman Catholic "watchdogs" have taken to whining to the forum moderators whenever Roman Catholic dogma is repudiated or mocked.

Not long after I posted this, it was yanked from FR with the following comment, which prompted the message exchange with the site owner that follows.

The religion forum on this fine site should be called the Roman Catholic Protection League. RCs can post inflammatory screeds against the Reformation, calling Calvin and others devils and so forth. But eye witness accounts of RCC endorsed idolatry from men such as Spurgeon get removed with comments such as “taking out the trash”. No names thrown at the Romans, they scream about hatred from Protestants and posts get killed.

Hyper-charismatic pentecostal false revivals are fair game, as are Reformed theological statements.

I encourage you and the moderators to examine your policy and the enforcement thereof. If you intend FR to be a protected haven for Roman Catholics, it should be clearly stated so we know the rules. If that isn’t your intention, please examine the enforcement of the rules and make sure one religious view point is not being favored. That would honor the concept of free exchange on Free Republic.

It’s your site, do with it as you will. But let us know the rules and enforce the rules evenly.

Sounds like a typical RC fanatic response. My questions to you were serious. Your response is juvenile.

If you want to manage a site, start your own.

I own 2 web sites and manage them. Thank you. I am not trying to run this one. I recognize it is a privately held site and merely made a request. No need getting your knickers in a twist.

Ok, we’ll try it this way. Keep the Catholic bashing off FR or leave.

I do not bash Catholics. I report on spurious Catholic doctrines and dogmas from a Reformed perspective. I refrain from personal attacks and go out of my way to avoid feeding the frenzy when it begins.

Again - you would do everyone a favor by clearly stating if this is a Roman Catholic Protection League. It’s disingenuous to act in that fashion without telling the people who are attracted to this otherwise fine site.

If you don’t like the way I run the site, leave.

B/S. Keep it off FR or you’re outta here.
